Sculpture 5: Traces, 2023

After Sculpture 4: Growing was created using detailed and intricate forms, Sculpture 5: Traces was intended to be much simpler.
Firstly, I cut a rectangular piece of clay from a larger block, leaving the few gentle creases from the bag it had been in as a starting point for modelling.
Then, using modelling tools and a needle, I added a diverse range of incised and cut patterns and textures.
In the next step, I cut out material from one area and added parts of it to different places.
The top was also reshaped to complete the work.
It was fired only once in order to retain its natural, almost white colour.
The photographs were taken moving the sculpture in a clockwise rotation.
